FAQs (Frequently Ask Question)

Shaheryar Mian is a Burlington-based entrepreneur and philanthropist who is hosting the Sunset Soirée gala to support grassroots charities in Halton. With a diverse background, he is passionate about education and empowering young people to achieve their dreams.

A night of giving, bridges two Halton charities that transform the lives of youth across the region. ArtHouse Halton delivers transformative arts-based programs that enhance confidence, curiosity, imagination, resilience, and respect among children up to age 17 in the Halton Region.
These initiatives are pivotal for children with limited access to extracurricular activities, providing a foundational experience that promotes personal growth and creative exploration.
As these children mature, Dare To Be Youth (DTBY) steps in with essential transition support, focusing on building life skills and developing strong community connections for young adults aged 17-24.
DTBY’s programs focus on emotional and financial literacy, preparing their mentees to effectively manage life’s challenges, while fostering a sense of belonging among the youth they serve.
Both organizations champion a holistic approach to youth development. ArtHouse Halton’s arts-based programs lay the groundwork for personal expression and resilience, while DTBY’s focus on practical life skills ensures that as young individuals grow, they receive the mentorship and support needed to thrive in an interconnected world.

The specifics of the entertainment are a surprise, but you can expect an unforgettable evening filled with fun, purpose, and a chance to connect with the community. Enjoy Indian and Italian food, unlimited drinks, exciting and lively entertainment, and a live auction!

Our Leaders

Don Pangman’s spent 30 years on Bay Street finishing his career as CEO of HSBC James Capel in 1997. Since then he has been involved in the charitable sector as a volunteer and fundraiser. In 2009, Don founded ArtHouse, a Halton charitable organization which provides FREE Arts-based programs for children and youth from 7–17 who have no access to extra-curricular activities. Celebrating its 15TH Anniversary in June 2024, ArtHouse has served over 11,500 young people with 870 programs at 90 safe and accessible locations throughout Halton. ArtHouse remains the only organization of its kind serving young people throughout Halton. Shannon Tobin has spent 12 years dedicated to youth empowerment and community development. In 2013, she stepped away from an executive position and founded Dare To Be Youth (DTBY) as a passion project. Initially a fundraising foundation supporting local organizations, DTBY shifted in 2020 to focus on developing preventative youth programming. Since 2021, DTBY has offered no-fee peer support programs for 14-24 year olds to build life skills, develop healthy relationships, and foster community impact. Financial and emotional wellness are tightly linked, yet often overlooked in traditional youth programs, making DTBY’s initiatives crucial.
In 2023, DTBY empowered over 1,950 students from 48 high schools across Halton, Hamilton, and the GTHA. DTBY’s work earned the 2024 Mayor’s Award for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at the Burlington Chamber Business Excellence Awards.
